What are we, some 3rd world country?
Why could the British eliminate the threat of Salmonella in eggs, but WE, the most advanced (ha) country in the world, could not?
Note: Small-scaled trials demonstrate vaccine effectiveness. Nevertheless, in a typical demur citing 1999 data,"the F.D.A. said that only large-scale field trials could prove that a vaccine would work in the real world of commercial henhouses....Dr. Sherrill Davison, the lead researcher on that 1999 study, [however] said that the F.D.A.’s assessment did not reflect advances made since then,"....and that technology and our now knowing how to administer them has improved to the point where we should act.Well, it adds a penny to the cost of a dozen eggs. Certainly retaining corporate profit is more important than protecting public health.
The FDA said there wasn't enough evidence that it was effective. Look at the graph at the end of this post, and see if that looks like "not enough evidence"! They said our vaccine was different from the British one. So, why didn't we use one like theirs? What's with the lame excuses? How much of the reason was the Bush era antipathy to regulation of any sort? But, new rules, without vaccination, went into effect only last month, so the Obama administration is hardly free of guilt.
Put it right up there with our decaying infrastructure - our decaying public health! We can't afford the nice things the European Democracies have, because we're spending all our money on war and bloating the super-rich.
